The Best Places in Dublin for Traditional Irish Music

The-Temple-Bar-Pub

Ireland is famous for its mighty pub atmosphere, something that pretty much all visitors to the Emerald Island want to experience when coming here. One thing that makes Irish pubs so special is the traditional Irish music. In many pubs around the country people gather in their local and play music together, called a ‘trad session’. There are some great places to listen to Irish music in Dublin and we compiled the best just for you:

The Cobblestone

We always recommend the Cobblestone when our customers ask for recommendations on where to listen to traditional Irish music. This pub is located in the neighbourhood of Smithfield which is very close to Dublin city centre. It is the best place mainly because they host sessions every day of the week and because you will find yourself among the locals.

The Celt

Just a few minutes away from the Spire of Dublin, The Celt is another great place for Irish music. While it is frequented by many tourists it has still kept its authentic Irish feel and it’s a great place to have fun, especially at the weekend. Live music is usually on every day of the week from 9pm.

The Temple Bar Pub

Possibly the most famous pub in Ireland, you always see its red facade on the cover of guidebooks. The Temple Bar is right in the middle of the Temple Bar district. It’s not the cheapest pub around but one to tick of the Dublin bucket list and where you can attend one of their trad sessions.

The Temple Bar Pub, 47-48 Temple Bar, Dublin 2

Devitts

This family run traditional Irish pub is located on Camden Street. It’s one of the rare places in the city centre that host authentic traditional sessions from Wednesday to Sunday. Possibly the pub that will make you feel like you’re getting an experience similar to what you see in small pubs in the rest of Ireland.

Devitts, 78 Lower Camden St, Saint Kevin’s, Dublin 2

O’Donoghues

O’Donoghues is a Dublin institution when it comes to Irish music. The pub has been frequented by many Irish musicians such as the Dubliners and Christy Moore. Known for its Irish trad sessions, it is a great place if you’d like to enjoy some lovely Irish music while dirkning a pint or two of Guinness.
