48 Hours in Dublin #1

Trinity College Dublin

If you are based in Europe and thinking of a weekend in a fun city, Dublin is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. During our food tours we often get asked for recommendations of other things to do. We thought we’d start a series of ’48 Hours in Dublin’ and post a few suggested itineraries here from time to time. Naturally, they will always include one of our Delicious Dublin Tours because we believe there’s no better way to discover Dublin than eating your way around it.

Friday evening

Have dinner in one of the amazing restaurants that serve contemporary Irish food in Dublin. If you’re looking for something casual, try great gastropub The Legal Eagle where they use a wide range of Irish ingredients and have a great choice of Irish craft beer. For something a bit more upmarket, treat yourself to the tasting menu in Forest & Marcy or to a Michelin-starred dinner at Chapter One.

Head to one of Dublin’s beautiful Victorian pubs for your first pint of Guinness or even better for a glass of Irish craft beer. We recommend the Stag’s Head, The Long Hall or Mulligans.

Saturday morning

Skip breakfast and be ready to discover Dublin’s food scene on one of our Dublin food tours, you’ll have a lot of fun! You’ll be nicely full and won’t need lunch.

Saturday afternoon

After our food tour it’s time to do some sightseeing! You can either jump on one of the Dublin Hop On Hop Off sightseeing bus tours or walk around to see some of the main attractions such as Christchurch Cathedral, St Patrick’s Cathedral or Dublin Castle.

Saturday evening

Have a little look around the Temple Bar area and go for cocktails in the Vintage Cocktail Club, a hidden gem in the middle of this busy part of town. After that, it’s time for dinner in contemporary Irish restaurant Delahunt or the multi-award winning casual restaurant that is Etto. After that why not head to Irish pub O’Donoghue’s  to experience some real Irish craic.

Sunday morning

Rest a little bit (many places open from 11am-12pm) and have a coffee in Kaph or a pastry and a hot drink in Fallon and Byrne. After that head over to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells, followed by lunch in the Pepperpot.

Sunday Afternoon/early evening

Take the DART (suburban train) to the picturesque fish village of Howth. Walk around the harbour (you might even spot the seals) and the village and make sure to do one of the cliff walks to encounter some amazing Irish scenery and views of Dublin Bay. Try to eat some seafood at one of the restaurant afterwards, before heading off to the airport.
