Culture Night returns for its eleventh year on Friday September 16th. Cultural venues across the country throw open their doors on the night for free visits, tours, workshops, readings, performances, demonstrations and more.
Here are the food highlights from around the country
Merlin Woods: The Night of the Harvest Moon, Galway
Performance, song, dance, and interactive community engagement are the focus as Galway plays host to The Night of the Harvest Moon in Merlin Woods, an evening of performance, song, and dance culminating in a feast for the community to share.
Oranmore – International Food Tasting, Galway
Let your taste buds take a global tour through the tastes and aromas of Oranmore’s many restaurants and food suppliers. From Italy to Bangladesh, your taste buds will be educated in flavours of the world, including a nod to the rising popularity of vegan food.
Derrybeg Farm, Kildare
Derrybeg Farm is an example of community-supported agriculture (CSA) – a membership farm. There is a direct relationship between the farmer and the 30-40 households who consume the food produced. Come for a walk around and meet some of the members. Enjoy a talk and tour about the watering system and demonstration the bicycle powered veg washer. Bring wellingtons in case it’s mucky!
Hands-On Bread Workshop, Limerick
Culture and Chips are back at Ormston House on Culture Night for hands-on breadmaking. Enjoy a short 15-minute workshops to learn traditional food skills and enjoy the smell and taste of your own fresh bread. Workshops are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cooking Up A Delicious Storm, Kildare
The opportunity to showcase varied specialities (food, drink & or beverage) from across the world. The challenge is split in four categories: 1] 9-11yrs old: cold food, 2] 12-14yrs: hot or cold. 3] 15-18yrs: hot and cold & 4] 19+yrs: hot and cold (include Mums & Dads). All registered for the challenge have to bring what they wish to cook while WIN provides space, cooking stove etc. and one prize each for the 4 categories.
Guinness Storehouse, Dublin
Enjoy an exclusive opportunity to delve into the Guinness Archives and learn about the history of Guinness innovations since 1759 at the Guinness Storehouse on Culture Night. Sample some of the brewery’s latest innovations from the Brewer’s Project, paired with delicious food prepared by the Guinness Storehouse culinary team at this exclusive evening. The Fumbally Stables, Dublin
The Fumbally Stables was built in the mid-18th century and since then, it has been used as a meat factory, a bakery and, more recently, a photography studio. Its current incarnation is a marriage of food, culture and education where experimentation, fermentation, workshops and events happen. They will open to the public for Culture Night with tours of the building and a blind food taste test with prizes.
ActionAid Ireland, Dublin
Celebrating the unique African and Asian cultures of global partners and highlighting the work of ActionAid in Uganda, Nepal, Kenya, Malawi, Vietnam and Cambodia with photo displays, talks, videos and storytelling. Taste some African/Asian complimentary food and drinks.
Alliance Française Dublin
Dive back into those relaxing summer nights with this special concert in a typically French surrounding. The restaurant will be open for the evening to give you the opportunity to taste the delicious French food.
Goethe-Institut Ireland, Dublin
Immerse yourself in German Culture, listen to German music and fairy tales, see new short films from Germany, take part in a German-Irish quiz with prizes, get information on language courses, library and activities, sample German food and drinks.
Irish Polish Society, Dublin
The Irish Polish Society is a non-profit and non-political organisation whose purpose is to promote friendship and integration between the Polish and Irish communities through social and cultural activities. Come and see an Art Exhibition from a group of IPS artists, savour some Polish food, take in the sounds of the Polish music and learn about Polish culture & traditions.
